  1. The Facts on Light Rail, published by Michael Ennis, Director, Center for Transportation, April 2008, clearly lists the FACTS regarding the WASTE surrounding Light Rail. Have you read it? http://www.truthabouttraffic.org/index.php/light-rail/know-the-truth

    Some highlights; paraphrased are:
-Services 2% of the workforce -Removes 0.39% to 1.1% of cars -Taxpayers are soaked for 73% to 100% of operating costs -Cost per rider $82,285 to $242,014 -Enticing new riders to rail is 16 to 47 times more expensive than enticing new bus rider (we already have buses) -12% more expensive to operate than buses -Cost to operate grew from $250mil 1996 to $729mil in 2005. Take time to read this 12-page report. BEFORE we make a $1.1 billion dollar plus mistake.

  2. Just thought I'd share my letter to UTA:

As a Centerville resident, I'm writing to voice my opposition for any more rail projects in south Davis county. As a faithful, but recovering UTA patron, I'm tired of hearing from UTA one wonderful solution after another. Front runner was the solution at one point, then we heard, "Just kidding, what we really need is rapid bus transit," and now the magic solution appears to be some light rail contraption.

The argument that this type of transportation saves us all money doesn't buy water with me, hence the reason I'm now a recovering UTA rider. Your premium Front runner pass is $162. I commute 30 miles round trip to SLC. At $3.50 for a gallon of gas, costs me about $60 a month (prices aren't at that yet), which is still cheaper than the $67 regular pass. Yes, I suppose I'm not factoring in automobile wear and tear, but then I'm also not factoring in my nostril wear and terror, I don't really care how people look, but I do care incredibly how they smell. Homeless people and business people who just had to buy that yummy garlic lunch, and let's not leave out the body order laden blue color worker, all of which have forced me off the buss more than once to finish up my commute on foot. And how do you put a price on saving my butt, knees, and legs from cramped and uncomfortable quarters. Should I even bother mentioning those slightly brownish seat cushions that are really suppose to be blue? How about the cutting of my commute from 60 minutes in that infernal bus, that must stop twice every block all the way from SLC to Centerville, vs. only 20 minutes in my car where I can set the temp to any degree I want, in clean comfortable conditions. That 60 minutes is assuming the buss showed up on time. And no, adding another train won't help us commuters. Transferring from the street car, to Trax only adds more time, and who is really going to ride from SLC to BNTFL/Centerville to shop when they have all the same options in SLC? Plus they have the Gateway and soon to be completed Downtown malls.

How about you save us all some money and just put in a Centerville Front Runner stop. There is plenty of land on the west side of the freeway for a stop, and having to go over stairs and a bridge to get to Front Runner didn't seem to be a problem in putting in the Farmington station.

Anyway, thanks for letting me rant.
